Digital Access Terms of Sale

Stars and Stripes has offices in the US, Pacific (Japan, Okinawa, and S. Korea), and Europe (Germany.) You are not required to purchase anything for certain limited use of www.stripes.com or the Stars and Stripes Military News apps. However, if you do not purchase a subscription, your access to Stars and Stripes online content and services will be limited.

By subscribing, you agree to the Terms of Service, Digital Products Terms of Sale and Privacy Policy.  You agree to be charged in accordance to the subscription plan in which you signed up for. Upon completion of the initial subscription term, your subscription will renew automatically as specified below. The third party vendor operating our subscription software is Pelcro, located in Montréal, Canada. The merchant on your card statement for your Digital Access subscription purchase will be “Stars & Stripes, Montréal Canada.” Note: Some financial institutions may apply an international transaction fee for your purchase.

a. Automatic Renewal
Your subscription, which may start with a promotional rate, will auto-renew at the then-current subscription rate at the end of the cycle stated at the time of your order (“Billing Period”) — unless and until you cancel your subscription, or we terminate it.

b. Cancellation
You may notify us of your intention to cancel at any time. Your subscription will be cancelled at the end of your current Billing Period. Your unlimited Digital Access will continue until the end of your Billing Period. Your subscription will renew automatically until you cancel.  You can also cancel at any time by logging in to your account and selecting “Cancel” in your account settings. You may also cancel your subscription by contacting us at memberservices@stripes.com

c. Refunds
Customers will receive a full refund for a cancelled annual Digital Access subscription purchased from Stars and Stripes if requested within one calendar day of purchase. A prorated amount will be refunded if requested within thirty (30) calendar days of purchase. To obtain a refund for an annual subscription, the customer must contact Stars and Stripes directly at memberservices@stripes.com. Customers will NOT receive a refund for monthly subscriptions.

1.1. Definitions

The term "digital product" refers to paid digital products available from Stars and Stripes including both Stars and Stripes digital subscriptions and one-time purchases.

1.2. About Digital Products

You can review the various Stars and Stripes Digital Access subscriptions here. We also offer other products and services, such as Digital Access gift subscriptions, In Memoriam site, and articles from our digital Archives. The purchase of Digital Access and Archives subscriptions are a one-time purchase.

Stars and Stripes reserves the right to modify the content, type, price, and availability of any digital product at any time.

a. Payment Method
You may pay for your Digital Access subscription with credit or debit card (Visa, MasterCard or American Express.) Stars and Stripes does not accept cash, money orders, or checks for Digital Access subscriptions. You may edit your Payment Method information using updating the Payment Card field in My Account, or by contacting us at memberservices@stripes.com.

If your payment is unsuccessful by reason of insufficient funds, card expiration, or otherwise, you remain responsible for any uncollected amount.

1.3. Processing and Payment

Our service provider, Pelcro, will process your purchase as promptly as possible. There may be a delay in the activation of your product while payment details are verified.

We accept Visa, MasterCard, and American Express. We reserve the right to reject any order or purchase at any time.

If your initial payment authorization is later revoked, your subscription, product or access will be terminated. Contact our Customer Service team if you believe your access was terminated in error.

Unless otherwise specified, in the Cancellation and Refund Policy, all charges are nonrefundable.

Terms of Sale

This Terms of Sale governs the sale of Stars and Stripes Digital Access subscription (the “Digital Products”). By using the Digital Products, you also agree to our Terms of Service and Privacy Policy.

1. Digital Products
The Stars and Stripes Digital Products include the website (www.stripes.com), mobile site, and tablet and mobile apps. You can access up to five (5) articles within 30 days without subscribing to Digital Access. You are not required to purchase anything to use Stars and Stripes Products. If you do not purchase a subscription or product, however, your access to the Digital Products will be limited. We also offer Digital Access gift subscriptions at www.stripes.com. You can view additional Stripes’ subscription offerings at www.stripes.com.

Stars and Stripes reserves the right to modify the content, type, and availability of any Digital Product at any time.

2. Subscription
a. Auto-renewing Subscription. Your Digital Products subscription, which may start with a promotional rate, will auto-renew at the end of the cycle stated at the time of your order (“Billing Period”) unless and until you cancel your subscription, or we terminate it. You can view the date of your next scheduled payment by visiting our website and clicking on the ‘MY ACCOUNT’ link.

b. Differing Subscriptions/Promotions. Stars and Stripes may offer a few types of subscriptions, including subscriptions or memberships to different organizations. Any materially different terms from those described in these Terms of Sale will be disclosed at the time of purchase or in other communications made available to you. You can find specific details regarding your subscription visiting our website and clicking on the ‘MY ACCOUNT’ link. We reserve the right to change or terminate any offered subscriptions or promotions at any time.

3. Billing
a. Payment Method. You can pay for your subscription with a major credit (Visa, MasterCard, American Express) or debit card. Only credit cards are eligible for payment. A debit card may also be known as a “check” or “ATM” card and typically has the word “debit” on it. You may edit your Payment Method information by visiting our website and clicking on the ‘MY ACCOUNT’ link. If your payment is unsuccessful by reason of insufficient funds, expiration, or otherwise, you remain responsible for any uncollected amount.

b. Recurring Billing. By placing an order for a subscription, you authorize us to charge you the subscription fee then in effect at the beginning of each Billing Period, plus applicable taxes, to your Payment Method. You acknowledge that the amount charged each Billing Period may vary for reasons that may include price changes, changing your subscription, or changes in applicable taxes, and you authorize us to charge your Payment Method for such varying amount each Billing Period. Applicable taxes or foreign transactions fees may vary. For example, you authorize us to charge your Payment Method the promotional rate disclosed on the subscription screen in the initial Billing Period (if applicable) and the regular subscription rate in subsequent Billing Periods, each with applicable taxes. We automatically bill your Payment Method on the last day of each Billing Period. We reserve the right to change the timing of our billing in the event your Payment Method has not successfully settled. If your Payment Method is declined for a recurring payment of your subscription fee, you have five (5) days to provide us a new Payment Method or your subscription will be cancelled.

c. Price Changes. We reserve the right to change subscription fees for any of our subscriptions at any time. We will notify you of any changes if the regular fee for your subscription changes from what was stated at the time of your initial order. You will have an opportunity to cancel your subscription at that time. If you do not cancel your subscription, you will be charged the new subscription fee at your next Billing Period.

d. Billing Period. We will charge the subscription fee at the commencement of your subscription or, if applicable, at the end of your free trial period, and automatically on the first calendar day of each Billing Period thereafter unless and until your subscription is cancelled.

e. One-Time Purchases. When you purchase a stand-along product, such as a gift subscription, we will charge your Payment Method at the time of purchase.

4. Cancellations and Refunds
a. Cancellations. You can cancel your subscription at any time by going to ‘MY ACCOUNT.’ You must cancel your subscription before it renews each Billing Period to avoid billing of the next Billing Period’s subscription fees to your Payment Method. Accordingly, when you cancel, you cancel only future charges associated with your subscription, and you will not receive a refund for the current Billing Period. Your cancellation will become effective at the end of your current Billing Period, and you will continue to have access to your subscription for the balance of the Billing Period. Any purchases of a Digital Product subscription through a third party (e.g., iTunes Apple Store, Google Play Store), are subject to that third party’s cancellation policies and procedures.

b. Refunds. Customers will receive a full refund for a cancelled annual Digital Access subscription purchased from Stars and Stripes if requested within one calendar day of purchase. A prorated amount will be refunded if requested within thirty (30) calendar days of purchase. To obtain a refund for an annual subscription, the customer must contact Stars and Stripes directly at memberservices@stripes.com. Customers will NOT receive a refund for monthly subscriptions. We reserve the right, however, to issue refunds or credits at our sole discretion. If we issue a refund or credit in one instance, we are under no obligation to issue the same refund or credit in the future.
