How do I subscribe to the Stars and Stripes newspaper?

The Stars and Stripes newspaper is published overseas for troops stationed in Europe and the Pacific, where we offer paid home delivery, and also provided at no charge to deployed forces in Afghanistan and the Gulf States. We do not print a daily paper stateside, although our publishing partners across the United States do distribute our weekly U.S. Edition to some of our stateside military bases.

Subscriptions are available only to Department of Defense personnel (active, inactive or retired), advertisers, and companies or organizations associated with the Department of Defense. If you’re a relative of a service member, the account must be in the service member’s name.

How do I renew my newspaper subscription?

If you would like to renew your newspaper subscription, please contact us. Payment can be made by money order, check through mail, or by carrier and Visa/ MasterCard by phone.

What are the home/business delivery rates for newspaper subscription in Europe?

Monthly rates for newspaper subscription are based on rank or rank equivalency. The monthly rates are:

E-1 to E-5 /GS-1 to GS-5 - $5.00 
E-6/GS-6 - $6.00 
E-7/GS-7 - $7.00

What are the home/business delivery rates for newspaper subscription in the Pacific region?

Monthly rates for home delivery newspaper subscription are based on rank/grade or rank equivalency.  Effective February 2020, the monthly rate for all new subscribers are:

Enlisted - $7.00

Officers & Civilians (Retirees) - $10.00

Official Unit - $13.00

I get home delivery of the newspaper. Can I also read articles on Stripes.com with my subscription?

Stars and Stripes print subscription includes free Unlimited Digital Access to Stripes.com. To activate your Digital Access account, please contact Customer Service.

How do I temporarily stop delivery of my newspaper if I live in Europe?

If you live in Europe and would like to temporarily stop delivery of your newspaper, please call us M-F: 0700-1600. If you live in Europe and would like to permanently cancel delivery of your newspaper, please call us M-F: 0900-1600. How can I obtain back copies of the newspaper?

Please contact us or call and we will be more than happy to help you find the back issue you are looking for. The cost for a back issue is $3.00 (US currency).

I live in Europe and would like to have the print newspaper mailed to me. What are the mail delivery rates for a subscription?

The rates for mail delivery:

13 weeks $107.90
26 weeks $215.80
52 weeks $431.60

I live in Europe. Can I receive a refund if I cancel my newspaper subscription?

We do not issue refunds, but will continue to deliver your paper until you ask us not to. If you no longer want to continue your subscription, please contact us. You can also elect to donate the balance of your subscription to provide newspapers to Department of Defense Dependents Schools (DODDS), United Service Organizations (USO), or the American Red Cross. These organizations will then provide papers to American service members and their families, so your donation will be much appreciated.

I live in the Pacific region. Can I receive a refund if I cancel my newspaper subscription?

You will be eligible for a refund for any prepayment made beyond the end of the current billing period. We do not issue refunds for payments under the current billing period. If you wish to cancel your subscription, please contact us or call us at one of the following numbers.

I received my newspaper damaged.

If your newspaper was damaged during delivery in Europe, please contact us or call. The Defense Media Activity (DMA) also provides a news digest edition. Stripes Lite is a digital newspaper for Department of Defense personnel stationed in locations not served by another daily U.S. citizen-oriented newspaper. It is produced every weekday from Monday through Friday. 

I live in Europe. What are the rates for home delivery of the print newspaper?

The rate for home delivery in Europe is $1 per week.

Mail delivery

Can I have my newspaper mailed to me?

If you have a U.S. mailing address, you can receive mailing delivery of the print newspaper. The deliveries are sent by 3rd class U.S. mail and the subscription cost is $13.00 per month (plus $6.00 postage). There is a minimum of 3 months subscription for $57. Subscription also includes unlimited Digital Access. For more information, contact us.

Does Stars and Stripes offer a digital newspaper?

The main edition of the newspaper is offered in digital form and is available Monday through Thursday. A combined Weekend Edition for Europe and Pacific is published on Fridays, and a Middle East-only edition is posted Friday through Sunday.

What is Stripes Lite?

The Stripes Lite news digest is a digital newspaper for Department of Defense personnel only who are stationed in locations not served by another daily U.S citizen-oriented newspaper and have limited data bandwidth availability. It is produced daily, Monday through Friday by the Stars and Stripes Central Office in Washington, DC and can be accessed at Stripes Lite News Digest.
